About Mila
Mila’s going on an adventure. She’s planned a day of outdoor fun for she and her roommates to enjoy at their local state park, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas Reserve, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. First, they’ll hike through forest to the Intercostal Waterway. Next, they’ll swim (or dip their toes, depending on the weather) in the ocean and relax on the sand. Finally, they’ll end the day with a sunset kayak tour of the estuary to observe the wildlife. Mila’s seeing the pandemic and necessary safety precautions as an opportunity to explore parts of natural Florida that are unknown to her, even though she’s lived in the area for years. It’s a way for her to see and do new things, like a more traditional vacation adventure, but requiring much less travel. I have to admit, I’m really jealous of Mila’s plans and admire her attitude! Mila’s interested in a swim capsule that is stylish, yet practical for all of the outdoor activities she’ll be doing. As far as preferences, Mila’s favorite color is blue. She’s on the shorter side, with a medium build and a smaller bust. She doesn’t need a ton of bust support but she does prefer one-pieces.

As Mila shared her plans and approach to the pandemic with me, I envisioned dreamy blues with white inspired by ocean water and mist. I also envisioned a laid-back vibe that would support Mila’s activities. First, I selected the Reformation Wave One-Piece Swimsuit in Island as the foundational garment. The cut of the suit is ideal for Mila to wear as a body suit while hiking and kayaking, and of course for a good fit while swimming. The high-cut leg flatters Mila’s figure and elongates her legs. I also love vacation print on just about any garment, and this Island print in that dreamy blue is fun yet pretty. For an easy layer that will transition easily from breezy and shady moments on the beach to cooler evenings kayaking the estuary, I chose a Chaser French Terry Pullover is a blue and white ombré. This mid-weight cotton-linen blend sweater has cut-out shoulders for a soft, slouchy, and flirty feel and fit. I love how the color design of this sweater reflects a misty ocean horizon. Pull-on white linen Lilo Shorts by Lilly Pulitzer are an ideal choice for Mila’s adventure. The linen is lightweight, breathable, and the pull-on elastic waist is comfortable as she hikes and kayaks. White linen shorts are a swim capsule staple – it’s almost impossible to go wrong with these as a coverup because of their easy versatility.
No matter the season, the Florida sun is strong. I included a simple, soft white cotton baseball hat for Mila to shade her face and scalp. A basic white baseball hat is another swim capsule staple!
To protect Mila’s eyes, I added Ray Ban’s Silver Mirrored Aviators. These sunnies are a cool metallic neutral that compliment but don’t distract from the tranquil blues and whites of the rest of the garments and accessories.
Jana Lam’s Fitted Face Mask in Blue and Sky Blue Seaflower adds a pop of print while keeping Mila and others safe when social distancing isn’t an option outdoors. Also from Jana Lam is the Bird of Paradise Backpack. I have this backpack and absolutely love it! The fabric of the backpack is the color of a soft denim with a subtle and pretty white bird of paradise pattern. This backpack is big enough to carry Mila’s essentials and her sweater and shorts, but not so big that it will be cumbersome or not fit in her kayak. For Mila’s feet, I suggested a classic white Adidas shoe that will provide enough support for her light hiking, but transition easily to the beach and beyond.
