About JOY
Joy doesn’t care much about style or fashion. She wants a swimsuit that will fit her well and won’t move around as she’s active in the water. For Joy, nothing fussy is a must. She’s petite in that she’s short. She wants to show off her bust and wants coverage for her booty. Joy mentioned that bright white can sometimes look harsh against her skin. Even though she’s not particularly into style, she is interested in making intentional purchases and investing in pieces that she’ll feel good wearing. She wants comfort, but she’s also interested in having a bit of fun with her new swim wardrobe. She admits “fun” isn’t a word she’s ever associated with swimwear and she’s ready for that to change.

Joy reminds me a lot of a friend who was my first unofficial Show Your Shells client. Just Joy’s luck that the same swimsuit I recommended to my friend that she LOVES is still available from J.Crew. The Ruched V-neck One-Piece is a style J.Crew has carried for years and years for very good reasons – it fits well, women like how it looks on them, and the price is right! The deep v-neck is shows off Joy’s bust and the full coverage bottom is just right. Because the straps are fixed this suit will stay in place as Joy enjoys the water. The ruching on the side flatters any shape, including Joy’s petite frame. When Joy mentioned wanting to have some fun, I had to choose the bright, Radiant Fuchsia color.
Keeping the “fun” vibes coming, I chose CeliaB’s Lyra shorts as her coverup. These shorts have an elastic waist (read they stay put) and a fixed tie (read easy on and off). These fun rainbow and cloud shorts as a coverup paired with this one-piece swimsuit make getting dressed a breeze with nothing to adjust or tie. BONUS: CeliaB is woman-owned, sustainable, and ethical!
I chose all off-white accessories for Joy’s capsule, following her observation that bright-white can sometimes look or feel harsh on her. Le Spec’s Veracious Sunglasses in Sand with squared frames are a versatile, neutral choice. The mirror finish while the frames are transparent adds a bit of fun to wearing them!
Mar y Sol’s Cyprus Tote in Sunflower is neutral yet bright, keeping with the “fun” theme of Joy’s capsule, while also keeping the accessories grounded in neutral off-whites. This bag is large enough to hold everything Joy will want to bring with her for fun in the sun, making getting ready easy. The poms can be removed in case Joy’s not crazy about them. BONUS: Mary y Sol is an ethical and sustainable brand!
Hat Attack’s Canvas Packable Hat is neutral in the Natural color and has a fun, no fuss detail of a fringe brim. This hat is packable so Joy doesn’t have to worry about carrying it separately or wearing it to wherever she’s going. She can fold it into her tote and be on her way!
Ipanema’s Street Slides are waterproof, easy to wear (slide on and off), and elevated with the rope and cross detailing. BONUS: Ipanema’s shoes can recycled once worn out!
The finishing touches on Joy’s capsule are a fun pink “LOVE” bracelet from Maison Irem and a clear LipLux gloss with SPF 30 by Coola as optional touches when Joy wants to add a little something extra.
